A Saturday Pontification – Blogger Participation Edition

“Excessive and silly building codes, along with laws that protect us from our own stupidity, and any and all man-made rules of like ilk, are part of an insidious conspiracy to weaken the gene pool.”

~~~ Thus sayeth The Old Silly
And to wit, I give these three quick examples (from amongst dozens I could cite at the drop of a toupee) as evidence:
1. Mandatory seat belt wearing whilst driving an automobile. It is obvious that wearing a seat belt is safer than to not wear one. Only an idiot cannot see the wisdom of such. Those without the smarts to figure that out must needs be eliminated by their own stupidity – not protected by the government in order to live on and procreate.
2. Mandatory helmet wearing for motorcyclists.
See above. Ditto.
3. “Thou shalt not install an electrical outlet or switch, or any other electrical device within 6′ of the center of a bathtub,” thus mandateth the building department evil conspirators.
Again, if someone is so poorly lacking in gray matter between the ears to not know better than to be lollygaggin’ around in a pool of water, realize he or she wants to turn a light on or off, and have the lazy, foolhardy notion to stay in the water and stretch, reaching out for and manually operating an electrical switch, well …
Natural selection dictates that person is best, for the good of humanity as a whole, shocked to death – rather than to have further opportunity to breed.
So – who else has one? Who can contribute to today’s silly laws and rules, evidence and proof of support for my conspiracy theory?
    Remember Pretty Woman? Rule for hooker – no kissing the lips…
    What gets my back up is seeing commercials on TV ADVERTISING anti wrinkling cream and the like but the person in the commercial is someone in her 29s without
    a wrinkle in sight.. Do they think us stupid?????????
    • theoldsilly / Nov 21 2009 11:21 am
      LOL – yes they DO think we’re stupid, Yvonne!
  3. L. Diane Wolfe / Nov 21 2009 9:54 am
    Preparation H tubes that state “Not for oral consumption.” Hey, if they are that stupid, let them eat it!!
    Love this one, Marvin.
    • theoldsilly / Nov 21 2009 11:21 am
      Exactly, Diane! Exactly my point – and yours, 😉
    Isn’t there a Darwinism aspect to some of these!?
    You don’t have to have a helmet in SC….which is why it’s tremendously popular for bike conventions. 🙂 Maybe SC is on to something? Or just clueless….
    Love this post. How about at the gas pump where there is the warning “consumption of gasoline can be hazardouw to your health.” No, really? I mean is smells so yummy – certainly it’s good for me, right? lol
  6. Cactus Annie / Nov 21 2009 10:38 am
    LOL – yeah, those stupid laws for sure. Like having to wait for 2 minutes at a stop light when there is NO ONE on any of the other 3 roads heading into the intersection for MILES. We need smart lights that turn green in such situations. that or let us people go! hahaha.
  7. tdryden1 / Nov 21 2009 10:58 am
    Same as the warnings not to use a hairdryer in the tub. Duh???
  8. unwriter1 / Nov 21 2009 11:05 am
    One of my all time favorites is the commercial that says: go to this website. I did and made x thousands of dollars a month. If you watch that commercial enough times, you’ll notice that the website keeps changing. Wonder why…
  9. Stanley Berber / Nov 21 2009 11:19 am
    Well the WORST possible “Law” coming down the pikes is gonna be the government MANDATED health insurance if we don’t put a STOP to that madness!
    Good post/rant, Old Silly.
    • theoldsilly / Nov 21 2009 11:22 am
      Oh good god yes – don’t EVEN get me started on THAT one, Stan!
  10. quirkyloon / Nov 21 2009 11:29 am
    Well I can’t think of any silly laws, but I’ll make one up. Cuz I’m good like that. hee hee
    Use at least five condoms when having sex with Tommy Lee and hope NONE of them break.
    Just looking at that dude can smack you with five STDs!
    Take your pick.
    Boy, I am in a strange mood this morning.
    And yet people keep breaking these unnecessary rules. That, to me, is the height of stupidity.
    I’m kinda with Helen – you can lead a horse to water, but a stupid horse still won’t drink. Love this post/topic, old silly. 😉
  13. ReformingGeek / Nov 21 2009 4:35 pm
    “No smoking at the gas pump.”
    Duh. Really?
  14. Patricia Stoltey / Nov 21 2009 6:10 pm
    Dang. I can’t think of another example. Brain freeze…
    Or wait an hour before you go swimming. That’s rule created by parents who want to rest.
    I love the radio commercial for a mens’ health product, that asks the question “Do you wake up at night to urinate?” I certainly hope so!
